Texas is moving its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve from an ETF-based holding through BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust to direct custody of Bitcoin and other qualifying cryptocurrencies. The state has issued a formal request for proposals to find qualified custodial partners who can manage custody, liquidity, and reporting. This transition, expected to complete within 60 days of contract finalization, aims to give Texas full ownership and control over its digital assets, enhancing security and transparency. An advisory committee has been formed to oversee the reserve strategy and a public transparency portal will be created for real-time updates on holdings.
