A new study analyzing nearly 68,000 US patients found that adoption of adalimumab biosimilars increased significantly after formulary changes, but over 16% of those who switched from Humira reverted back to the original drug. The research highlights that while biosimilars can reduce costs and improve access for autoimmune disease treatments, patient preferences and characteristics influence switching patterns. Older adults, women, and those with ankylosing spondylitis were more likely to switch back, especially in rural areas. These insights can help clinicians and health plans support patients during biosimilar transitions and build confidence in these therapies.
