Thailand allows crypto ETFs to invest only in Bitcoin and Ether starting Oct 16

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission will permit crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to invest exclusively in Bitcoin and Ether under new regulations effective from October 16. The SEC introduced 11 rules requiring funds to use passive strategies, maintain at least 80% net exposure to a single crypto asset annually, and hold assets with regulated custodians. The framework also enables Thai mutual and private funds to invest in domestic crypto ETFs, expanding access beyond direct crypto holdings. Brokerages are prohibited from financing crypto ETF purchases and offering overseas crypto ETF services to most retail investors during the initial phase, limiting such services to institutional and ultra-high-net-worth clients only.

Thailand's new crypto ETF rules come with this market snapshot from Pluang as of Oct 09, 2026 09:41 WIB: Out of 50 major cryptocurrencies priced on Pluang, 9 rose and 40 fell today. Notable movers include AVAX at Rp183.642 with a 7.31% decline and a typical hold time of 87 days, XTZ at Rp5.179 down 6.47% but with 100% buy order activity, and SOL at Rp1.962.403 down 5.65% with 68% buy order activity.
