Critical Linux flaw CVE-2026-98432 exposes systems on Red Hat and Ubuntu to root access exploits

A critical Linux vulnerability, CVE-2026-98432, affecting IPv4 TCP and rated 9.8 on the CVSS scale, has been confirmed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8, 9, and 10, as well as multiple Ubuntu versions. The flaw allows attackers to exploit a use-after-free bug in Multipath TCP (MPTCP) to gain root access, demonstrated by a proof-of-concept exploit that leaks kernel pointers and executes shell commands. Red Hat has issued patches for affected RHEL versions, but the issue remains ongoing, while Ubuntu is still working on fixes for its vulnerable releases. This flaw is significant because MPTCP is enabled by default in Go 1.24 and later, potentially increasing exposure on Linux systems.
