Potomac Edison proposes 5.3% rate hike to fund electric system upgrades in Maryland

Potomac Edison, a FirstEnergy subsidiary, has proposed a $52.8 million rate increase in Maryland, raising average residential bills by about 5.3%. The adjustment aims to fund upgrades to aging infrastructure, grid modernization, and reliability improvements, including smart grid technology and enhanced outage response. Despite the increase, Potomac Edison’s rates would remain the lowest among Maryland’s investor-owned utilities. The Maryland Public Service Commission will review the proposal, allowing public input before approval.
