Polkadot Treasury suffered a $1.381 million loss due to an exploit in the dotUSD stablecoin's cross-chain messaging system from October 24-26. The attacker manipulated the recorded supply of dotUSD without affecting account balances, causing pricing distortions in a Treasury-funded DOT/dotUSD trading pool where the Treasury was the sole liquidity provider. Although no user funds were lost, the incident exposed a critical flaw that was initially fixed in June but never deployed to production. Polkadot has since fixed the issue on-chain and plans to improve monitoring and deployment processes to prevent future incidents.
