Electrum wallet patch fixes flaw that let hackers redirect Bitcoin payments during fee increases

Electrum has released version 4.8.3 to fix a high-risk vulnerability that allowed malicious servers to redirect Bitcoin payments when users tried to raise transaction fees. The flaw affected all versions before 4.8.3 and could replace a valid transaction with one sending funds to an attacker’s address, causing potential loss of funds. Electrum received private reports of this issue in October and promptly issued the fix, urging users to update only from official sources and verify signatures. Users connected to trusted servers were not affected by this attack.

Electrum's Bitcoin wallet vulnerability update comes as a backdrop to a broad market downturn. For readers following cryptocurrency markets, here is Pluang's snapshot as of Oct 25, 2026 15:21 WIB: out of 50 major cryptocurrencies, only 5 rose while 43 fell. Notable movers include DOT at Rp18.544 with a 3.63% decline and a 58% sell order activity, ATOM at Rp28.967 down 3.58% with 56% sell orders, and SAND at Rp880 down 3.46% with 55% sell orders.
