Quantum researchers say 30K qubits could crack Bitcoin keys in just one hour, raising security concerns.

New research from quantum computing firm Alice & Bob estimates that a quantum computer with about 29,588 physical qubits could break Bitcoin's elliptic-curve cryptography in roughly one hour. This cryptography secures Bitcoin transactions, so such a breakthrough could expose millions of BTC to theft if quantum-resistant protections aren't developed soon. The study also shows significant reductions in resources needed for breaking RSA-2048 encryption, highlighting faster progress in quantum computing capabilities. While practical quantum attacks remain a future challenge, the findings increase urgency for Bitcoin developers to adopt quantum-resistant security measures before powerful quantum computers become available.

Quantum computing research on breaking Bitcoin keys provides context for cryptocurrency markets. For readers following major cryptocurrencies, 34 out of 50 rose today while 14 fell. Notable moves include SNX at Rp3.683 with a 2.14% increase and 90% buy orders, FTM at Rp11.382 down 2.05%, and NEO at Rp39.042 up 1.90% with 84% buy orders, as of Oct 29, 2026 22:22 WIB.
