AstraZeneca's new COPD drug shows strong trial results, aiming for $5B annual sales by 2030.

AstraZeneca released full data from two late-stage trials of its experimental COPD drug, tozorakimab, showing significant reduction in flare-ups among both former and current smokers. The drug, under FDA priority review with expected approval in early 2027, could become a breakthrough treatment by addressing a broader patient group than existing biologics. AstraZeneca raised its peak sales forecast to over $5 billion annually, contributing to its $80 billion revenue target by 2030. The drug works by blocking IL-33 protein pathways, potentially improving treatment for millions of COPD patients, including those with low eosinophil counts who currently have limited options.
