Meta could save $8.5B in 2027 by using its own AI chips instead of third-party ones.

Bank of America estimates Meta Platforms could save about $8.5 billion in 2027 by running AI workloads on its own custom MTIA chips rather than buying third-party chips. Meta plans to deploy its third-generation MTIA 450 chip and a higher-performance MTIA 500 chip in 2027, co-developed with Broadcom, targeting AI inference workloads. These chips are expected to be about 40% cheaper than third-party equivalents, significantly reducing Meta's capital expenditure, which is projected to reach $130-$145 billion in 2026. This move enhances Meta's operational efficiency and long-term returns as it expands AI capacity and infrastructure.

Meta Platforms shares are trading at USD 678.79, up 0.81% on Pluang, while Broadcom shares are at USD 348.40, gaining 2.62%. Meta's market cap stands at $1.72 trillion, reflecting strong investor interest as it plans to cut costs with its own MTIA chips. These figures are current as of Sep 17, 2026 23:11 WIB.
