Meta Platforms has acquired Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI), a startup specializing in humanoid robotics, to advance its ambitions in physical AI. The ARI team will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs, aiming to develop robots that can assist humans safely and reliably. This move places Meta in direct competition with other tech giants and startups in the rapidly growing humanoid robotics market, projected to reach $5 trillion by 2050. The acquisition follows a trend of major investments in humanoid robotics, including Amazon's purchase of Fauna Robotics and Xiaomi's deployment of humanoid robots in manufacturing.
