EU bans USDT stablecoin sales on major platforms due to MiCA rules, favoring USDC instead

As of November 1, 2026, major crypto platforms in the European Economic Area (EEA) no longer allow the purchase of Tether's USDT stablecoin due to the EU's MiCA regulation, which does not authorize USDT as an e-money token. Licensed providers must cease all services related to USDT by January 8, 2027, except for limited residual services like selling and withdrawing existing holdings. USDT holding remains legal for individuals, but USDC is now the preferred licensed dollar stablecoin in the EU, offering legal redemption rights and direct supervision. Investors can still obtain USDT indirectly via USDC and decentralized exchanges, but this carries risks and no regulatory protection.

The topic of buying USDT in the EU is presented here with Pluang's market data as context. For readers following major cryptocurrencies on Pluang, as of Nov 01, 2026 14:21 WIB, 28 of 50 priced major cryptocurrencies rose while 21 fell. Notable movers include AAVE at Rp2.504.476 with a 4.49% increase and a Pluang order activity of 37% Sell / 63% Buy, LINK at Rp214.226 up 3.95% but with 88% Sell orders, and TRX at Rp5.674 down 3.93% with 81% Sell orders. The highest gain was AAVE's 4.49% rise.
