SMH ETF price soars 307% in 5 years, but dividends remain below 2022 peak.

The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) has seen its share price rise by 307% over the past five years, delivering strong capital gains to investors. However, its annual dividend payout remains below the peak level reached in 2022, with the 2025 payout still 8% lower after adjusting for a stock split. The fund's top holdings, including Nvidia and AMD, pay very low or no dividends, resulting in a trailing yield of just 0.2%. While the dividend income is safe due to the profitability of the underlying companies, it is too small to support income-focused investors, making SMH more suitable for growth-oriented portfolios than for retirees seeking steady cash flow.

As of Oct 26, 2026 19:41 WIB, SMH trades at USD 533.50 on Pluang, up 1.19% for the day. Nvidia, a major holding in SMH, is priced at USD 213.06 with a 0.97% daily gain. Taiwan Semiconductor, another key component, trades at USD 420.78, rising 0.54% as of the same time.
