GoPro and Starman Optical have agreed to merge, with GoPro shareholders receiving $285 million in cash and retaining about 10% ownership. The merger will recapitalize GoPro, eliminate its $92 million debt, and add Starman's U.S.-made optical transceivers to GoPro's portfolio. This positions GoPro to expand beyond consumer products into AI data centers, government, defense, and aerospace markets, leveraging advanced optics and imaging technologies. The combined company will remain publicly listed on Nasdaq and continue supporting existing products while investing in growth. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory and shareholder approvals.
