CVS Health to split into two public companies by 2028, reversing its 2018 Aetna acquisition.

CVS Health announced plans to split into two separate public companies by mid-2028, undoing its $78 billion acquisition of insurer Aetna and breaking up its integrated healthcare business. The split will separate CVS's 9,000 retail pharmacies from its insurance and pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) units, aiming to improve focus, innovation, and efficiency. CEO David Joyner highlighted the move as a strategic step to enhance consumer engagement and affordability. The insurance and PBM company will keep the CVS Health name, while the retail pharmacy business will be called CVS Pharmacy, with both companies publicly traded and shareholders owning stakes in each. This decision follows a strategic review and comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of PBMs and vertical integration in healthcare.

CVS Health shares are trading at USD 92.35 on Pluang, showing a 1.03% gain as of Nov 04, 2026 18:41 WIB. The stock has a market cap of $116.91 billion and a dividend yield of 2.91%, with 91% of Pluang orders currently buying CVS shares.
