Cosmos Hub validators halted the network for nearly 25 hours after a manipulated Neutron governance proposal enabled an attacker to steal about $4.4 million in digital assets. The attacker bought and staked Neutron tokens just before voting closed, passing a proposal that transferred control of 11 contracts to them, which were then exploited with malicious code. Validators coordinated the halt to recover funds, successfully moving 1.227 million Cosmos (ATOM) tokens linked to the attacker to a new address, with plans to return them to original holders. This incident highlights risks in decentralized governance and the importance of coordinated responses to security breaches.
