This controlled release helps manage supply inflation and funds Ripple's operations, but also fuels debate about XRP's centralization since Ripple controls the pace of token circulation. The escrow system is enforced by the XRP Ledger protocol itself, making early unlocks impossible without consensus changes, and the remaining escrowed XRP is projected to last around nine more years at current release rates.
