A security flaw in the Electrum Bitcoin wallet allowed attackers controlling rogue servers to replace legitimate unconfirmed transactions with fake ones. When users tried to speed up payments by increasing fees using the Replace-by-Fee feature, they unknowingly authorized transactions sending funds to attackers. At least one user lost bitcoin before Electrum patched the vulnerability in version 4.8.3 on October 24, which added signature verification for unconfirmed transactions. Users are advised to upgrade immediately and verify payment details carefully; those using trusted servers were not affected.
