Blackrock has reduced the minimum in-kind conversion amount for its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from $25 million to $1 million, allowing more mid-sized institutions to exchange bitcoin directly for IBIT shares. This change enhances price tracking accuracy and liquidity by enabling more participants to arbitrage the fund against bitcoin's spot price. The move also offers tax advantages for institutions holding bitcoin, as in-kind conversions avoid taxable cash sales. IBIT recently attracted $479 million in inflows over three days, reflecting growing investor interest amid a broader trend of rising spot bitcoin ETF inflows. Blackrock plans to further lower the threshold to eventually allow conversions at any size, aiming to improve market efficiency as the bitcoin ETF market matures.
