Bitmine to stop buying Ethereum after reaching 5% supply cap, shifting focus to staking.

Bitmine, one of the largest corporate holders of Ethereum, is about to stop buying ETH after reaching its self-imposed cap of 5% of the total supply, a limit encouraged by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The company has accumulated roughly 6 million ETH, or 4.9% of the supply, in just over a year, much faster than the originally planned five years. Bitmine has also staked 86.5% of its ETH holdings, focusing on productive use rather than just accumulation. With Bitmine’s buying pressure ending, future Ethereum demand will depend more on ETF flows, staking growth, and broader institutional adoption.

Ethereum trades at Rp43.224.291 on Pluang as of Oct 22, 2026 19:45 WIB, showing a 2.72% decline in the past day. Market activity on Pluang leans towards buying with 68% of orders, while typical holders keep their ETH for about 107 days. The news about Bitmine stopping its ETH purchases may influence future demand, which could shift depending on ETF flows and staking trends.
