Bitget Wallet has become a member of Japan's Blockchain Collaborative Consortium (BCCC), allowing it to participate in discussions on local blockchain and crypto wallet policies. The move is significant as Japan is currently evaluating how to regulate companies that hold customers' crypto versus wallets that let users control their own assets. Bitget Wallet, which serves over 100 million users globally, will share its experience with self-custodial wallets that do not hold user assets but provide software for direct control. However, joining BCCC does not equate to receiving a Japanese license or official regulatory approval; it only enables Bitget to contribute to policy discussions as Japan considers appropriate standards for self-custody wallets.
