Fed's FIMA facility could boost yen and create liquidity tailwinds for Bitcoin, Ether, and gold, says BitMEX co-founder.

Arthur Hayes, BitMEX co-founder, suggests that Japan's use of the Federal Reserve's FIMA repo facility to support the yen could increase dollar liquidity temporarily, benefiting Bitcoin, Ether, and gold prices. Japan coordinated a yen intervention with the U.S. Treasury on July 31 and plans to use FIMA to exchange Treasuries for dollars without selling them outright, potentially avoiding market disruption. The Fed currently limits FIMA exposure to $60 billion per counterparty, but an increase could allow larger interventions. While this mechanism is a short-term liquidity tool, Hayes believes it could expand the Fed's balance sheet and support scarce monetary assets. However, no significant FIMA expansion or immediate crypto price rally has occurred yet, making this a forward-looking thesis dependent on future policy changes and usage.
