Balancer plans to shut down its exchange and return $9M+ to BAL holders after revenue drops post-exploit.

Balancer is proposing to shut down its decentralized exchange protocol and return over $9 million in remaining treasury assets to BAL token holders. This decision follows a major exploit in November 2025 that caused a $128 million loss and a steep decline in revenue, which fell from $1.13 million in October 2025 to just $56,781 in August 2026. The protocol's attempt to recover revenue with a leaner operating model failed, leading to the planned phased shutdown starting in October 2026. BAL holders will vote on the proposal from September 25 to 29, with liquidity providers given until October 30 to exit before the protocol moves to withdrawal-only mode in November. The remaining treasury funds will be distributed to BAL holders in stages, requiring token burns for claims.

Balancer's proposed shutdown follows a major exploit and revenue decline.
