Following a security incident at Binance, about 18,270 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at roughly $1.4 billion, was moved from an exchange hot wallet into 19 separate wallet addresses on October 29. Binance estimates the total impact of the hack at $6.3 billion, with around $3 billion frozen on-chain. The exchange is collaborating with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the stolen assets and will cover losses using its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and company funds. Bitcoin's decentralized nature means coins in self-controlled wallets cannot be frozen unless they are transferred to cooperating services.
