Do I Earn Rewards During the Bonding or Unbonding Period?

No, you do not earn rewards during the bonding period, and rewards also stop during unbonding. The bonding period is the network-mandated lock-up that runs before your stake becomes active, and no rewards accrue while your coins sit in Bonding In-Progress — accrual only begins once your position reaches Staking Active. On the other side, rewards stop accruing from the day after you submit an unstaking request, when your coins move into the unbonding stage on their way back to your spendable wallet. Reward accrual, in other words, happens only while your stake is genuinely active and securing the network. Importantly, any rewards that have already accrued before these waiting periods are never lost: they are still paid out on the next Tuesday distribution, in the same coin you staked, regardless of your current staking status. Bonding and unbonding are normal blockchain waiting periods rather than penalties.

  • Bonding period = no rewards. Bonding is the network's required waiting time before your coins are actively staked. While your position shows Staking Requested or Bonding In-Progress, no rewards accrue. Earning begins only when the status becomes Staking Active — there is no way to earn during bonding.
  • Unbonding period = no rewards. After you request unstaking, your coins pass through the network's unbonding lock-up (Un-bonding In-Progress, then Un-bonding Done) before returning to your wallet. No new rewards accrue during this stage; accrual has already stopped from the day after your request.
  • The request day itself still counts. On the day you submit an unstaking request (status Un-bonding Requested), that quantity is still included in the daily accrual, because the reward formula counts `Staked Qty + Unstaking Requested Qty` and the daily accrual runs at 8AM WIB. From the following day, that quantity leaves the formula and rewards stop.
  • Accrual by status, at a glance. Rewards accrue only in Staking Active (and for the single day of Un-bonding Requested). They do not accrue in Staking Requested, Bonding In-Progress, Un-bonding In-Progress, or Un-bonding Done. Active is the only genuinely earning state.
  • Already-earned rewards are safe. Whatever accrued before you entered a waiting period is preserved and paid on the next Tuesday distribution, no matter your current status. Bonding and unbonding pause future earning; they never claw back rewards you already banked.
  • These are network rules, not Pluang penalties. Bonding and unbonding durations are set by each blockchain's proof-of-stake protocol to keep the network secure, so exact lengths vary by coin. Because they are non-earning windows, planning around them helps you minimise idle, reward-free days.

Related questions:

Q: What if I submit an unstaking request before 8AM WIB — do I still earn for that day?
Yes. The daily accrual runs at 8AM WIB, and on the day you submit your unstaking request your Unstaking Requested Qty is still included in that day's calculation, because the formula counts staked plus unstaking-requested quantity. So you earn for the request day itself. Reward accrual then stops from the following day onward, once your coins move fully into the unbonding stage.

Q: Can I earn rewards during the bonding period by any means?
No. Reward accrual only begins once your position reaches Staking Active status, and there is no workaround to earn during Staking Requested or Bonding In-Progress. Bonding is a network-mandated waiting period built into the proof-of-stake protocol, not a Pluang setting that can be shortened or skipped. The wait is simply part of activating a stake, and rewards start the moment it ends.

Q: How many days of rewards do I lose by unstaking early?
You do not lose rewards you have already accrued — those are preserved and paid on the next Tuesday. What you forgo is the reward for each day after your unstaking request, once your coins enter the unbonding stage and stop earning. The earlier in a cycle you unstake, the more of those future earning days you give up, but nothing already banked is taken back.

Q: If I immediately re-stake after unbonding, do I lose any reward period?
Effectively yes, because re-staking starts a fresh bonding period during which no rewards accrue before Staking Active resumes. Each new stake goes through its own network bonding wait, so rapidly unstaking and re-staking can create repeated non-earning gaps. If your goal is continuous earning, it is usually better to stay staked rather than cycle in and out and repeatedly sit through bonding.

Q: Do bonding and unbonding periods change my rewards once staking is active again?
No. Once your position is back to Staking Active, rewards accrue normally again using the same daily formula and are paid on the weekly Tuesday distribution in the same coin. Bonding and unbonding only affect the non-earning windows themselves; they do not reduce the rate or change how active-stake rewards are calculated. Exact durations vary by coin and are set by each network's protocol.
