The XRP Ledger patched a nearly decade-old vulnerability in its payment engine that could have allowed attackers to create spendable XRP beyond the network's total supply. The flaw involved an unchecked 64-bit integer calculation during payments consuming many offers, potentially wrapping values to smaller numbers and generating new XRP. The fix was deployed urgently in version 3.4.1 on September 25 without the usual validator vote to quickly secure the network. There is no evidence the flaw was ever exploited publicly, and a separate batch-transaction issue was also fixed without impacting user funds.
