The European Commission has found Meta in breach of the Digital Services Act for using addictive design features like infinite scroll, autoplay, and personalized algorithms on Facebook and Instagram. These features encourage compulsive use and harm users' mental and physical health, especially minors and vulnerable adults. The EU demands Meta disable these features by default, improve screen-time controls, and adjust recommendation algorithms. Meta faces fines up to 6% of its global revenue if it fails to comply. Meta can respond before final decisions are made. This follows earlier EU findings and ongoing scrutiny in the US over Meta's handling of young users' safety.
