Taiko, an Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution, suffered a $1.7 million exploit after its chain-state verification mechanism failed, allowing an attacker to bypass key validation checks. The attacker quickly moved stolen assets, including 1.99 million TKO tokens to an exchange wallet for liquidity, while still holding 870.8 ETH worth $1.52 million. Taiko responded by halting block production and urging exchanges to freeze deposits to limit further damage. Despite the breach, Taiko's liquidity and activity remained stable, but the attack exposed critical security flaws in its core infrastructure, raising concerns about future reforms.
