Tether is set to launch USDT as a native asset on Bitcoin using the RGB protocol within weeks, restoring the stablecoin to its original blockchain since its 2014 Omni Layer debut. This integration with Bitcoin's UTXO model and Lightning Network will allow USDT to be sent through native Bitcoin addresses with improved privacy, instant off-chain payments, and lower transaction costs. The rollout, led by software firm UTEXO in partnership with Tether, aims to challenge Tron’s dominance in stablecoin transfers by reducing fees and intermediaries. The launch is expected to enhance Bitcoin's role as a settlement layer for digital assets and will be supported by wallets and exchanges soon.
