Symbiosis recovers 15 BTC after $336K Bitcoin Bridge exploit, offers attacker 20% bounty

Symbiosis faced a major exploit on its Bitcoin Bridge, where a vulnerability allowed the attacker to mint unbacked syBTC tokens worth a notional $46.1 billion. However, actual losses were limited to about $336,000 as the attacker converted only 4.39 WBTC. Symbiosis halted BTC routing, recovered 15 BTC, and secured them in a multisig wallet. The protocol offered the attacker a 20% bounty on returned funds by September 13, 2026, and is working on compensating affected liquidity providers. This incident highlights ongoing security risks with synthetic Bitcoin and cross-chain bridges.
