Starbucks to close 1% of North American cafes, cutting new openings forecast for 2026

Starbucks announced it will close about 250 underperforming cafes, roughly 1% of its North American locations, as part of its ongoing business turnaround. The company, led by CEO Brian Niccol, aims to improve customer experience and financial performance by exiting less profitable sites. For fiscal 2026, Starbucks lowered its net new cafe openings forecast to 440 from a prior estimate of 600 to 650, focusing new growth mainly in international markets. The closures will incur around $300 million in restructuring charges, including lease exit costs and asset impairments, mostly completed by the end of fiscal 2026.

Starbucks shares trade at USD 94.01 on Pluang as of Sep 24, 2026 18:51 WIB, down 0.14% in one day. The stock's market cap stands at $107.32 billion with a dividend yield of 2.63%. Pluang users show a balanced interest with 58% buying and 42% selling activity.
