This change will increase the block production rate to five slots per second, doubling the original rate of 2.5 slots per second, and shorten the validator leader window to 800 milliseconds. The upgrade also lowers the maximum block-compute limit to maintain proportional computing capacity. This follows previous stages that gradually reduced slot times from 400 to 250 milliseconds. Meanwhile, Solana's SOL price has declined slightly in recent days. The upgrade focuses on block timing and does not affect transaction finality, which is targeted by a separate Alpenglow consensus upgrade with no confirmed launch date yet.
