A new report by Frontier Economics, commissioned by VEON Ltd., shows that reducing mobile-specific taxes in Bangladesh and Pakistan could accelerate digital adoption, boost GDP per capita growth, and increase government revenues over time. Currently, mobile taxes are very high in both countries, limiting mobile penetration and digital financial services. The report finds that lowering these taxes could raise Bangladesh's GDP per capita growth from 6.6% to 7.2% and Pakistan's from 4.2% to 4.5%, with government revenues surpassing current levels by 2030-2031 due to broader economic growth. This reform would support financial inclusion and economic participation for millions relying on mobile connectivity.
