Abraxas Capital holds $1.57B in crypto shorts on Hyperliquid, using them to hedge and earn funding payments.

Abraxas Capital has built up to $1.57 billion in notional short positions on Hyperliquid, using this strategy to hedge its crypto holdings and earn funding payments. The firm’s two accounts have generated $9.8 billion in trading volume and received over $66 million in funding since starting in February 2025. Their short positions peaked in October 2025, representing about 10% of Hyperliquid’s open interest, primarily in Ether and Bitcoin. After funding rates fell, Abraxas reduced exposure but has since expanded activity again, currently holding $365 million in various tokens and stablecoins on Hyperliquid, which could support future token buybacks under Hyperliquid’s yield mechanism.

Bitcoin’s market cap stands at Rp30.161,56 trillion as of Oct 21, 2026, 17:41 WIB, highlighting its dominant position in the crypto market. On Pluang, Bitcoin trades at Rp1.500.085.544 with a 1-day gain of 2.14%, while trading volume remains robust at Rp480 trillion. This strong market activity provides context for Abraxas Capital’s significant short positions on Hyperliquid, which involve Bitcoin and Ether among other tokens.
