Apple is holding exploratory talks with Intel and Samsung about chip manufacturing to reduce its heavy reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). While TSMC is the leading chipmaker producing Apple's processors, dependence on a single supplier poses risks, especially amid chip shortages and geopolitical tensions around Taiwan. Apple is not planning an immediate shift but aims to build alternative supply options for future resilience. This move could also impact the chipmaking industry by boosting Intel and Samsung's foundry businesses in the US, supported by government initiatives like the CHIPS Act.
