Georgia Power is expanding its Plant Bowen in Northwest Georgia by adding two new combined-cycle natural gas units totaling nearly 1,500 MW and a 500 MW battery energy storage system. These investments are part of the company's strategy to meet growing electricity demand in Georgia while maintaining stable and affordable rates. The plant, operational since 1971, is also recognized for its advanced emissions controls and beneficial reuse of coal ash, reducing environmental impact significantly. The expansion is supported by a $26.5 billion loan package from the Department of Energy and Southern Company, aiming to enhance energy reliability and infrastructure in the region.
