Silver plunges nearly 50% from its peak amid rising rates and inflation fears.

Silver prices have dropped nearly half from their 52-week high, with the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) falling 5.49% recently to $54.95, reflecting a 49.97% decline from its peak of $109.83. This sharp selloff began after a record 30% single-day crash in January, driven by rising oil prices, inflation concerns, and expectations of further Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Higher yields and a stronger dollar have particularly hurt silver, which pays no income and has significant industrial demand that is sensitive to economic slowdowns. While short-term forecasts remain cautious, some analysts see potential for a year-end bounce, though risks remain high and investors are advised to keep silver exposure small compared to gold, which has held up better.

The iShares Silver Trust (SLV) has a market cap of $30.28 billion and a trading volume of 12,397,795 shares on Pluang as of Sep 30, 2026, 18:31 WIB. Silver's price on Pluang is $54.75, down 1.32% on the day, showing continued softness after its steep decline from last year's peak. Meanwhile, gold (GLD) remains more resilient with a market cap of $144.43 billion and a slight daily gain of 0.16%, reflecting stronger investor preference for gold over silver at this time.
