This system uses an off-chain Merkle-sum tree to track balances and commits the root to the blockchain, relying on Bitcoin script features not yet active. Exiting the tree requires a single transaction regardless of size, but the design is still theoretical as it depends on unactivated Bitcoin script capabilities. LayerTree also proposes integrating Lightning channels and payment vouchers, though large-scale use may face challenges if many users exit simultaneously.
