Georgia Power announced that its contract to serve OpenAI's new project in Effingham County has been approved, contributing to increased savings for customers. The typical residential customer is now expected to save $180 per year by 2029, up from a previous estimate of $102, due to revenue from large-load customers like data centers. This growth is projected to generate about $950 million annually, totaling $2.847 billion in customer benefits from 2029 to 2031. Georgia Power's strategy includes flexible demand response commitments from OpenAI, helping reduce energy costs and maintain stable rates despite growth in the state.
