AstraZeneca's shares fell 9.55%, wiping £19 billion off its value, after its Wainua drug failed a major Phase III trial for transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). The trial did not meet its primary goal of reducing cardiovascular deaths and events compared to placebo. Despite this, a subgroup on Wainua alone showed some nominal benefit. Full data will be presented in August, and the result impacts investor confidence ahead of two other major trial readouts later this year.
