LinkedIn announced it will lay off 606 employees across several offices, effective July 13, as part of a strategic shift to focus on high-priority projects and improve return on investment. The largest cuts will occur in Mountain View, California, with additional layoffs in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Carpinteria. These layoffs follow a memo from new CEO Daniel Shapero emphasizing the need to prioritize investments and scale back in areas like marketing and office space. There may be further reductions, as reports suggest LinkedIn plans to cut 5% of its 17,500 workforce. This comes shortly after LinkedIn reported 12% revenue growth and Shapero's recent promotion to CEO. Meanwhile, parent company Microsoft is also offering buyouts to reduce its workforce without mass layoffs.
