These perpetual contracts, which do not expire and allow continuous exposure, could improve hedging and price discovery during times when traditional futures markets are closed. The groups highlighted that during recent Middle East disruptions, perpetual contracts continued trading through weekends, capturing much of the price adjustment before traditional markets reopened. They propose safeguards such as leverage limits and transparent rules, and seek regulatory clarity on 24/7 market operations and acceptance of stablecoins and tokenized assets as margin for cleared derivatives.
