Hashdex Asset Management will close its DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF on August 17, 2026, due to weak liquidity and limited investor interest. The fund, holding about 225 Bitcoin and roughly $14.7 million in assets, will sell its Bitcoin on the open market and distribute cash to shareholders around August 28, 2026. This move ends Hashdex's two-year attempt to compete in the US spot Bitcoin ETF market, which is dominated by much larger funds like BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust. Investors should note the liquidation may trigger taxable events and that the fund will not transfer Bitcoin or shares to another ETF.
