EU rules force Google to change search, worsening results and favoring price comparison sites

Google has implemented changes to its search results to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act, which it warns will degrade the quality of its search service. The new format prioritizes price comparison sites like Expedia and Booking.com over direct business listings, removing helpful features such as real-time prices. This shift follows a $534 million fine for Google favoring its own services and a 60-day deadline to comply or face penalties. Google reports a 30% drop in direct booking traffic to European businesses and user dissatisfaction with the new search experience. These changes currently affect only users in the EU.
