Ethereum's net supply rose 0.64% in 2026 as fee burns offset only a small part of new issuance.

From January 1 to October 9, 2026, Ethereum's net supply increased by about 778,413 ETH, as transaction fee burns offset only 2.074% of the gross issuance of 796,623 ETH. Additional consensus penalties and other destruction raised total ETH burned to 2.286% of issuance, leaving supply about 0.64% higher. The EIP-1559 mechanism burns base fees to reduce supply, but current network usage and gas limits mean full offset of issuance requires higher fees or gas usage. Upcoming network upgrades like Glamsterdam are being tested, but a higher gas limit alone won't guarantee more ETH destruction since burning depends on user activity and fees charged.

Ethereum's fee burns and issuance data provide context for cryptocurrency markets.
