Memory shortage drives DRAM prices up; CXL tech offers data centers a way to reuse old memory and ease costs.

DRAM prices have surged nearly fivefold due to a tight memory supply driven by growing AI infrastructure demands. The open standard CXL (Compute Express Link) allows servers to reuse older memory modules and pool memory across servers, helping data centers optimize costly DRAM usage. Companies like Marvell, Astera Labs, and Penguin Solutions are developing CXL-based products to address this shortage. While CXL adds latency and is not a permanent fix, it could become a key technology through 2027 and 2028 as memory supply remains tight and prices stay high.

As of Oct 13, 2026 16:21 WIB, Marvell Technology (MRVL) trades at USD 261.20, closer to its 52-week low of USD 73.73 than its high of USD 316.43, while Astera Labs (ALAB) at USD 319.18 remains well below its 52-week peak of USD 483.02. Micron Technology (MU), priced at USD 965.50, is also nearer to its 52-week high of USD 1.21K than its low of USD 187.06. Despite the recent pullbacks, Pluang investors show a strong buying interest in these memory-related tech stocks, with Astera Labs seeing 100% buy activity and typical hold times ranging from 5 days for ALAB to 48 days for MU.
