Research by Enso reveals that certain DeFi liquidity pools, called "toxic pools," manipulate pre-trade simulations to display attractive prices but execute trades at worse rates, deceiving users and routing software. Two cases were found: a Curve pool on Ethereum and a Uniswap v4 hook on Polygon, which together caused significant financial losses and failed transactions. This manipulation challenges current price discovery methods and highlights the need for better verification of trade execution. Enso offers a product, Enso Shield, to detect such fraud and calls for industry-wide validation to protect users.
