A hacker exploited a rounding flaw in a Balancer V1 liquidity pool, stealing about $234,000 by manipulating WBTC reserves to near zero. The vulnerability involved the joinswapPoolAmountOut function, which miscalculated token deposits when reserves were very low, allowing the attacker to mint pool tokens for almost no cost. The attack was funded through nested flash loans and highlights risks in immutable Balancer V1 contracts and their forks, which cannot be upgraded. Security experts warn similar pools using legacy code remain vulnerable without minimum input and balance checks.
