Aave V4 users may soon borrow stablecoins using Bitcoin held natively on the Bitcoin network, thanks to a new proposal by Babylon Labs. Instead of wrapping Bitcoin on Ethereum, users lock BTC in Bitcoin vaults while an Ethereum token represents the loan position. This approach separates collateral storage on Bitcoin from lending on Ethereum, differing from current Wrapped Bitcoin loans that rely on custodians. The proposal is under community review and, if approved through upcoming votes, could launch with initial fees benefiting the Aave DAO.
