Craig Wright, who claims to be Bitcoin's creator, criticized BTC for depending heavily on intermediaries like Coinbase and the Lightning Network, arguing this makes it vulnerable to surveillance and criticism. He distinguishes BTC from what he calls the "true" Bitcoin, represented by Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV), which he says should be a pure peer-to-peer network without middlemen. Despite Wright's claims, BSV remains a minor project while BTC continues to gain institutional support and global recognition. Wright's debate mainly interests blockchain historians now, as his legal claim to Satoshi was rejected by the UK High Court.
